Episode #94: How To Re-Parent Yourself

Julie opens with a reframe: at the end of the day, all self-help is learning to become your own parent. She traces how the internal parent gets built in childhood and how the gaps show up in adulthood, as anxious protest on one side and avoidant shutdown on the other, then walks members through a guided exercise for meeting their own emotions, followed by three live coaching sessions.

Covered in this session:

  • How children integrate the parent they had, and how that template can be rewired as an adult

  • Why safe environments teach self-regulation, and why co-regulation makes it easier, not harder

  • The anxious and avoidant splits: getting louder to be heard vs. no longer asking

  • The reparenting sequence: recognize, name, validate, sit with it, then listen to what it needs

  • Why nearly every painful feeling has grief underneath it

  • Live coaching on powerlessness, accepting a friend's limited capacity, and healthy assertion
